## RELEASE OF THE WEEK

![Interview with the Vampire (1994) 4K UHD](https://storage.ghost.io/c/e6/46/e6461554-2524-47a1-9ee4-c1bc5554c627/content/images/2026/09/interview_vampire_poster.jpg)

Interview with the Vampire (1994)

### Interview with the Vampire (1994)

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment | 4K UHD + Blu-ray | Dolby Vision / Atmos

The transfer is fine. Dolby Vision does real work here — Philippe Rousselot shot this film by candlelight, and the HDR grade finally lets the Louisiana plantation sequences breathe the way they should. High Def Digest called it Highly Recommended, which tracks. The 2160p UHD-100 triple-layer presentation is serious hardware for a film that earns it.

But the transfer is not the reason to buy this.

Warner went back into the vault for this release and surfaced deleted scenes that have never appeared on any edition — not on streaming, not on any prior disc in any territory. Footage cut in 1994\. They had a commercial reason to go looking, and they found something. Director commentary covers the recovered material. Two new featurettes produced specifically for this disc: Neil Jordan and editor Mick Audsley on how Rousselot built the film's visual language, and production designer Dante Ferretti on creating the world. This is what physical media does that nothing else does. The deleted scenes do not exist on Netflix. They exist because a disc release was worth making.

The reason to own this disc has nothing to do with nostalgia — it has to do with the deleted scenes. Footage cut in 1994, never released anywhere, now existing on a physical disc because someone had a commercial reason to go looking for it. That's what physical media is for. I'm buying this to see the film for the first time the way it was always supposed to be seen, on a disc that Dolby Vision and a new restoration made worth watching, with material that doesn't exist anywhere else. That's the whole argument in one release.

## SKIP OF THE WEEK

### Toy Story 5 SteelBook (2026)

Disney is charging $44.99 for a steel case on a film that hit Disney+ the same day, is in permanent print, and will be in a multi-pack at $19.99 within 18 months. Five deleted scenes and standard making-of fluff. The SteelBook art is adequate, not special. Disney's catalog SteelBooks carry no secondary market premium worth banking on. If you loved the film, the standard 4K will be $24.99 by spring. Skip it. Buy Nouvelle Vague instead.

## LIMITED EDITION ALERT

![The Complete Kubrick — The Criterion Collection](https://storage.ghost.io/c/e6/46/e6461554-2524-47a1-9ee4-c1bc5554c627/content/images/2026/09/complete_kubrick.jpg)

The Complete Kubrick — The Criterion Collection

### The Complete Kubrick — The Criterion Collection

30-disc 4K UHD box set | Release: October 20, 2026 | Pre-order: $419.99–$479.96 (retail $599.95)

Every Kubrick feature and short — all 16 films — in new 4K restorations in a single box. Spartacus through Eyes Wide Shut. 25+ hours of supplements. The box also includes the international cut of The Shining: Kubrick's longer theatrical version with approximately 25 additional minutes, which has never had a legitimate North American home video release in any format.

There is no precedent for this release. Criterion has not committed to keeping it in print permanently. The pre-order discount is roughly 30% off list and it disappears when the box ships October 20\. If the Kubrick filmography is something you care about owning properly, this is the window. The Shining international cut alone justifies serious collector attention.

[Pre-order at Criterion.com ($479.96)](https://www.criterion.com/boxsets/9000-the-complete-kubrick?ref=deadformat.email) | [Pre-order at Amazon ($419.99)](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Complete+Kubrick+Criterion+4K+box+set&ref=deadformat.email)

## BACK CATALOG PICK

### 12 Angry Men (1957) — Criterion Collection

Criterion 4K UHD + Blu-ray — released September 8, two weeks ago, still in stock. Sidney Lumet and cinematographer Boris Kaufman built deliberate visual escalation into this film: increasingly wider lenses as the jury room tension climbs, one of cinema's most precise technical strategies. A proper 4K scan finally makes that progression fully legible at home. Criterion's transfer is strong, priced correctly for what it is. If you missed release week, this is the correction.

[Buy at Amazon (\~$39.99)](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=12+Angry+Men+Criterion+4K&ref=deadformat.email) | [Criterion.com](https://www.criterion.com/films/28701-12-angry-men?ref=deadformat.email)

## $50 PICK

### Interview with the Vampire (1994) — Standard 4K UHD

Warner Bros. | 4K UHD | $24.99 — Buy at Amazon

At $24.99, this is the easiest call of the year. The Dolby Vision grade does justice to Rousselot's candlelit cinematography in a way no prior edition managed. But the reason to buy it this week rather than wait is the deleted scenes: footage cut in 1994, never released in any territory on any format, with director commentary on the recovered material and two new making-of featurettes produced specifically for this disc. The SteelBook is $7 more for a metal case — the film and every supplement are identical on the standard edition. For $24.99, there is no stronger buy in this price window this week.
